C24, KVH or BSH? Depends what it carries.
C24 for the walls, floors and roofs of a house. NTR, class C16, for sole plates and decks. KVH when a beam has to be long and straight. BSH, to order, when it has to be big or on show. C16 battens for the roof. All from one adviser.
01C24
Södra C24, solid timber
Scandinavian spruce from Sweden's Södra, whose official distributor we are, strength-graded to C24, kiln dried to around 15 % and planed on four sides. Studs and head plates, floor joists, rafters: everything a timber-frame house is made of, in sections from stock. For the sole plate and outdoors there is the NTR pressure-treated version, described below.

02NTR
Södra NTR, pressure treated
The same Scandinavian spruce, pressure treated by the NTR method: the preservative goes deep into the timber, not just the surface, so it protects at the cuts too. After treatment the timber is graded C16, so it goes where resistance to moisture matters more than load: the sole plate, decks, pergolas, fences. Head plates and studs in a dry wall need no treatment.

03KVH
KVH, finger-jointed timber
Solid C24 dried to 15 % and finger-jointed along its length (Konstruktionsvollholz). A beam is 13 m long, straight along the whole length and does not twist once built in. We cut to size; offcuts shorter than 2.5 m are included in the price.

04BSH
BSH GL24, glued laminated timber To order only
Spruce laminations dried to around 12 % and glued into a beam that does not crack or twist and looks like furniture: no large knots, an even light surface. For beams meant to stay visible and for sections solid timber does not come in. BSH is not kept in our yard: we bring it in to order only, to your size, and the lead time comes with the quote.

05C16
Battens, counter battens and roof boarding
The roof's and facade's small timber, graded C16 because it carries no structure: the 38 × 63 batten under tiles or sheet metal and for the grid behind cladding boards, the 25 × 48 counter batten on the rafters that makes the ventilation gap under the covering, and the 25 × 100 board for full roof boarding under standing seam or felt. Kiln-dried spruce, untreated, certified, 4.2 m long.

Which section for what
This is how we pick timber for our own houses. For your own design take it as a starting point; you can size a floor joist yourself on the structural design page, and the engineer confirms the rest.
External wall studs and head plate
C2445 × 145 or 45 × 170, at 60 cm
WhyThe depth of the stud is the thickness of the insulation in the wall: 145 mm in the Standard wall, 170 mm in Comfort and Premium. The head plate has the same section as the studs and, like them, stays dry in the wall, so it is untreated.Our wall build-ups
Sole plate
NTRNTR C16, same section as the studs, e.g. 45 × 145 or 45 × 170
WhyIt sits on the foundation, closest to moisture, so it is the one member of the wall that is pressure treated. Grade C16 is plenty: the sole plate carries the wall along its whole length.NTR timber in the shop
Floor joists
C2445 × 220 or 45 × 245 up to 5.2 m
WhyA joist from stock is 5.4 m; with 10 cm bearing at each end that leaves a 5.2 m span. Beyond that a STEICOjoist I-beam or LVL takes over.Size a floor joist
Rafters
C2445 × 195 to 60 × 245, KVH 60 × 240 in our roofs
WhyThe depth of the rafter is the thickness of the roof insulation: in our Premium roof a KVH 60 × 240 rafter carries 240 mm of fibre, in Comfort 60 × 200. On a shorter span solid C24 45 × 195 or 45 × 220 is enough; the section depends on the span and the snow zone.Our roof build-ups

Collection
The warehouse and yard at the head office, Góra Motyczna 3A, a few kilometres from Dębica. Loading on the spot, during opening hours; some sections can also be collected in Jasło.

We deliver across Podkarpacie, Małopolska and beyond, in an Iveco van or a lorry with a loader crane that unloads on site by itself. The cost and date come with the quote, before you order anything.

C24 and NTR in the lengths we stock, KVH cut to your size, BSH to order only. On a larger order the adviser arranges the lengths so that as little as possible goes to waste.
